Benet Sarsanedas

(Rupit, 1942)

Training

At the age of fifteen he begins his training in the University of Girona, with the first drawing classes and the first landscapes in oil.

In the decade of the sixties, mounted a study in the calle de la Palla in Barcelona and comes in contact with the environment in the artistic avant-garde of this city. Regularly goes to the Artistic Circle of Sant Lluc, where he perfected his technique of drawing, especially in the nude.

Starting in the 1970s, lived long periods in Paris. Often visit museums and galleries and he paints oil paintings and gouaches of the Seine, the Latin Quarter, Montparnasse, etc, Paris has always been a great source of inspiration to him; them frequent stay in this city allow you to stay in touch with your artistic and cultural world.

In the year 1978 follows a course of fresco painting at the International School of Mural Painting in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Their travel and stay in the Empordà, the region of Castile, the Magisterium, Asturias, Spain, and in England, Italy, Holland, Norway, Czechoslovakia, Russia, America, China, Thailand, Turkey i Morocco, will mark their later work.

In the decade of the eighties, he finally settled in Barcelona. Since then he has been exhibiting regularly in different art galleries of Catalonia, the cities of the Spanish State such as Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Gijón, and Europe, such as Venice or Aachen. Currently she divides her time between the studio of the Street d Amargós in the Gothic Quarter, and the landscapes of the Priory.

The art critic Rafael Manzano defined with the following words:

“We dare to say that it is a painter's difficult and, at the same time, candid and simple. Born in Rupit, beautiful body urban “Catalonia old”, understand the landscape in a different way than the traditional, so we qualified on a book our of “heterodox”.

It does not look at the nature “the beautiful thing”, their values on the surface, the epidermal layer that has spoiled so many vocations. Benet Sarsanedas, as in his day expressed Cezanne, he is concerned about “penetrating the unseen”, we delve into the landscape for you to discover your gestures are intimate and deep. Hence what we can fit inside of the expressionists, by what have his works of nature and of sense.

This accommodation of your palette to the feature sensed and secret things takes you to move to your fabrics topics on which floats an atmosphere intrahistórica; old cities, spaces dilated and austere, towers in which we perceive the flight of the storks. (...) In the scenarios of this painter never think of something placid and tranquil; those clouds presage a storm; those trees waiting for a wind gut-wrenching; in those fields, “it seems that things dream”, as he wrote Machado.

A canvas of Sarsanedas never leaves us indifferent; it is in them that “drama” without which, as pointed out by Picasso, the work of art vanishes. (1987)
