More info

Highlights this sculpture for its attention to detail and good quality. The naturalism and expressiveness of the face is the most eye-catching, but also the body and their proportions are evidence of the hand of a master.

This type of sculptures, small format, were made to decorate rooms. Thematically, it was common to find them of important figures from the History or Art, depending on the room to which they were intended. In this case, it is likely that bronze would have been intended to decorate a library or a study of any character of certain economic level and fan art, or professional in the field (painter, sculptor, etc).

The fact that the piece is crafted with the same care as for the later part of the same indicates to us that his destiny was to be placed on a table, and not attached to a wall or to a panel.
