The Bersaglieri were a corps of the Italian Army created in 1836 by General Alessandro La Marmora to serve in the Navy of Piedmont (which became in later in the Royal Italian Navy). It is a unit of light cavalry, very well trained physically and with outstanding marksmanship in the shooting and for his quick step in the parade.
After the first World War they were equipped with bicycles, and motorcycles later on. In the Second World War kept their quality and their hardness in the training, and fought in the south of France, Greece, north Africa, etc
Currently still maintaining some of the characteristics of its foundation. For example, in gala, wear black gloves and vaira, the characteristic helmets with feathers.
The hull shape of the present lot is one of those vaira. Dating from the Second World War, and maintains the characteristics feathers and the distinctive shape of the element.
Traditionally, these helmets with a wide brim, decorated with feathers of grouse, and identified the unit to which they belong with the rosette on the side. Highlights this piece for its good state of preservation.
