Rafael Fernández de Soto (1915-1984)

Catalan painter specialized in the theme of landscapes, the sea and still lifes.

He traveled through Spain in a trailer that served as a studio and space to exhibit his works. His first professional exhibition was in Barcelona in 1944. He was awarded at the Montjuic Spring Exhibition in 1945.

His style moved between photographic realism and surreal symbolism. He had a relationship with Picasso and the gatherings at the Quatre Gats café.

 

Rafael Fernández De Soto i Subirana was one of the most prominent painters of his time. Along with the landscape he also excelled in still lifes and seascapes with excellent mastery. During his long artistic life, he exhibited in numerous individual and group exhibitions held in Barcelona, ​​Girona and other cities on the Peninsula. He received numerous awards and mentions. His works are in private collections.

 

In this work the artist has captured a peaceful rural landscape of the Bergadá, with the hundred-year-old trees and typical haystacks that he usually represents in his works, full of light and calm.
