More info

The Silver Wraith Rolls-Royce is a car that was produced by Rolls-Royce in its facilities in Crewe from 1949 to 1955. It was the first car Rolls-Royce that is offered built factory body that she shares, along with its chassis, with the Bentley Mark VI until 1952 and then the Bentley R Type until production finished in 1955. The car was first introduced as a single model export. The models with the steering wheel to the left had a change of marches column, while the units on the right had a change of floor next to the door. Only with the model-based Type R was officially available in the domestic market, from October 1953.

A number of 760's were produced between 1949 and 1955. The earlier models up to around may 1954 had a dashboard that was different ( dashboard ) from the Bentley Mk.VI and type 'R', and were equipped with an exhaust system only. The most recent models of the SSR series chassis had the fascia style Bentley and the dual exhaust system, as fitted to Type the Bentley 'R'. In the steel car standard in the entire history of the production, all the body panels forward of the bulkhead / firewall were slightly different to those installed in the Bentley.

Engine 6-cylinder in-line had the upper inlet and exhaust valves side, and had a capacity of 4257 cc until 1951 when this was increased to 4566 cc. The carburettor was a single downdraught Stromberg until 1952 when it was replaced by a Zenith.

The suspension is independent in front with coil springs, while at the rear the live axle used a medium leaf springs elliptical. The car had a separate chassis, made with the traditional construction of riveted until 1953 after which it is welded. Servo assisted 12.25 in (311 mm) drum brakes were used, hydraulically operated at the front but retaining mechanical operation of the back. Although many cars were fitted with bodies constructed at the factory, others have been delivered by external body builders .
