More info

This item rectangular presents the opening on the third bottom, a lid that is joined to the body by a hinge on one side. It shows a scene that is developed on both sides, framed by a decoration asymmetrical elements pseudovegetales, with flowers at the top.

The marks of contrast of the piece indicate that it is made in the call silver “esterling”, with between a 90 and a 95 % silver in their alloy. Also, make clear to us that it is a piece made in Birmingham by the second half of the NINETEENTH century. The silversmith that made this item was called H. Matthews.

On the one hand, have been represented with detail of three figures. Two ladies, with dresses that show their belonging to a high class, and a musician playing a lute, with a tower behind it. It puts these characters in a garden idealized, with a nature seemingly wild. This type of bucolic country scenes became something very common in paint, etc from the Rococo by the taste of this artistic style for the topics unimportant, with human figures in landscapes, idealized.
