Although, apparently, the first regiment officially endowed with bayonets was the Regiment of the King, in France, in 1670, there is a theory that says it was in Spain where it first was used, starting from a few hunting knives more as shown in the illustration to the left. They were known as "knives or bayonets taco", a gun with a grip-shaped that fit in the barrel, as shown in the drawing, intended to finish off the hunting more dangerous, like the wild boar. It would not be surprising that this theory was true both in terms of still exist today a multitude of copies of that type of knives of that era, usually richly ornamented with inlays of silver, bone, etc, and leaves with a profusion of engravings. In this, as always, I got into a game the purchasing power of each. As you can see, it was a double-edged sword, like a dagger medieval, whose grip was powered by a protrusion coupled to the crosshead to stop when inserting it into the barrel. When the hand grip fusiform, could be fitted without problem in any gun, regardless of its caliber.
