For its size, it was one of the so called “gun pocket” that used to be hidden as a means of self-protection. It was usual that they would carry men hidden in their clothes or luggage or bags, but was also somewhat common to find them in bags female for that little size.

In the NINETEENTH century it was very common that the same type of gun are made in different places, hence the difficulty of applying nomenclature of models on many occasions. However, the resemblance of this piece with the Derringer Rotating fabrió from about 1870, is very striking. The gun this gun cabinet american was patented in Spain by Juan José Larrañaga (Eíbar, Guipúzcoa), calling it “gun swivel pocket”. As well, “Larrañaga, Garate y Cia.” introduced this weapon in the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888. Also built in Eíbar the company Arrate and the signature Zulaica & Ortiz, none of whom marked their work.
