The Buick Skylark was a car of tourism produced by Buick. The model has been created in a variety of series production. In each run, the car design varied dramatically due to changing technology and tastes, as well as new rules implemented in recent years.
In the early-1950s, Buick stunned the automotive world with cars concept, the XP-300 and LeSabre, biplazas of low height that pointed to the future. Inspired by the tremendous reaction to his "dream cars" Harley Earl conjured up the Skylark to celebrate the golden anniversary of Buick in 1953. The non plus ultra of the series, Roadmaster, was essentially hand-built custom from the factory.1
The Buick Roadmaster Skylark was one of three convertible special produced in 1953 by General Motors and the other two were the Oldsmobile Fiesta and the Cadillac Eldorado. The three were limited production vehicles to promote the leadership of General Motors design. Of the three, the Roadmaster Skylark had the most successful run with 1.690 units. This was considered an incredible feat of sales, since the car had a list price in 1953 of slightly more than 5,000 us dollars.UU
In the fall of 1960, General Motors introduced a trio of new compact cars for the model year 1961, which share the same chassis, engines and body panels major, although each had single front and style back and the differences in the exterior and interior finishes, these were the Buick Special, Pontiac Tempest and Oldsmobile F-85.
Introduced in the middle of the model year 1961 and based on the basic Buick Special Deluxe two door sedan (also known as a coupe), the 1961 Buick Special Skylark had unique Skylark emblems, taillights, side moldings lower body-covers wheels-turbine style, and a roof coated vinyl. It also offered a luxurious interior fully vinyl seats Bucket as an option. The instrumentation was minimal and consisted of only a speedometer and a fuel gauge.
The 1961 Buick Special base came standard with an engine of 215 cubic inches (3.5 L) V8 engine with a block entirely of aluminium, with a carburetor 2-barrel that produces 155 horsepower (116 kW) at 4,600 rpm. The 1961 Buick Special Skylark came standard with a version of this same engine (optional on other Specials) that used a higher compression ratio and a carburetor 4 barrels to produce 185 horsepower (138 kW).
