Engines
The 170-cubic-inch (2,8 L) Slant-6 remained standard equipment, though its power increased to 101 HP (75 kW) to 115 HP (86 kW) - 1967, due to the installation of larger carburetor of the motor 225 and the revised camshaft the bigger engine had received in 1965. For vehicles in the domestic market of North America, the base engine 170 was replaced for 1970 with a new 198 cu deposit in (3.2 L) version of the Slant-6. This new base engine was also less expensive to make, because unlike the previous engine 170, the 198 used the same block as the 225. The displacement smaller is achieved with a new crankshaft (3,64 in (92 mm) Stroke vs. the 4,125 in (104,8 mm) Stroke of the crank 225) and the rod connection (7,006 at (178,0 mm) long vs 6.67 in (169 mm) rods in the 225). However, the 225 remained an upgrade option. The 2-barrel 273 cubic inch (4.5 L) small-block V8 was replaced on the option list in 1968 by a 318-cubic-inch (5,2 L) engine 2 barrels. The 318 was rated at 230 bhp (170 kW) versus the 2-barrel carburetor 180 bhp 273 (130 kW). At the same time, the 4-barrel carbureted 273 235 bhp (175 kW) was replaced on the options list by the 275 BHP (205 kW) carburetor 4-barrel 340 cubic inch (5.6 L) available only in the 1968/72 and Swinger the hottest Dart, the models, GTS performance-oriented. The Dart GTS came standard with the 340 cubic inch (5.6 L) V8. 300 horsepower (220 kW) 383 cubic inches (up to 6.3 L) big-block was optional.
1967
The Dart and its sister model-the Plymouth Valiant-have been redesigned substantially for the model year 1967. In addition to a new design, the cars received revised steering systems, in general the axes front and the spacing side member of the frame, and redesigned K-members capable of accepting larger engines. The Dart would keep this basic form, with facelifts consisting of revised front and style of the rear and interior trim, until the end of the production of A-body in 1976 for North America and 1981 for South America.
The Dart redesigned for 1967 featured a rear window with curves, inverse, compound. This creates a unique look in the back of the greenhouse , but tended to collect snow and created thick C-pillars that seemed to blind formal, but were created for the drivers. Side glass curved is used for the first time in a compact Chrysler. In the front, there was a new contour front end of a double plane: the central section of the grille, bumper and front edge of the hood were recessed into the flat front of the car. The headlights individual is placed in front of the central section is recessed, which defines the frontal plane. Lamps parking / directional were set in the grille, in the corners formed by the transition zone between the sections recessed and forward. This same treatment front, with small cosmetic changes to the grille and parking lights / directional relocated in the front bumper, was also used by Chrysler Australia for their 1967 VE-model. Valiant
With the new design, changes were made to the alignment Dart, starting with the removal of their trucks and designation of the base model of "170". The unique body types were the 2 - and sedans 4 doors, hardtop and convertible. The base model 170 was now badged simply as Dart. The 270 and GT versions carried without modification for the most part. At the end of 1967, the model GTS debuted but was built in limited quantities due to its lateness in the model year; the 1968 GTS would be, without doubt, improved by the installation of the new high-performance 340 cubic inch (5.6 L) V8 engine as standard equipment .
The 1967 Dart, along with all the other 1.967 products of Chrysler, has a new hydraulic brake system double-circuit to ensure the pressure loss in the front brakes would not prevent the rear brakes working, and vice versa. The system also incorporates a failure of the brake system telltale on the dashboard. Other changes to comply with the new federal laws of security include collapsible steering columns, additional padding on the dashboard and sun visors. Anchors for the shoulder belts are also provided for the front occupants front side.
1968
Changes for 1968 were relatively subtle. The parking / directional lights in the grille were moved slightly inside and around made. side marker lights were added to the fenders and front panels of the rear quarter, to comply with newly introduced Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 . Shoulder harnesses (separate, this year and until 1973, from the seatbelts) and of matte finish without shine in the wiper arms were also part of the security package by federal mandate in 1968. Emission control system, Chrysler's "Clean Air Package" became standard equipment on cars sold in all 50 states. The steering linkage was revised again, like the windshield and the gaskets of the rear window and trim-lock, leaving the 1.967 pieces as one -year only items. The rear axle ratio standard was abandoned 2,93-2,76 with all the engines of performance standard and automatic transmission. Functionality partial Load reduction gear is added as a refinement of the automatic transmission TorqueFlite in cars of 6 cylinders, to maintain an acceptable performance of the city with the relationship of the rear axle higher. An option limited for 1968 only were the Hurst Hemi Darts, using the 426 Hemi engine, constructed with the reduction stripped down interiors, removal of the mechanisms of the side windows of weight. These special models (only 50 were made) were created exclusively for the endurance races, and included a disclaimer of liability out of warranty. The cars were shipped painted only with primer with wheels, bases, components of the fiberglass body (hood with a special spoon).
1969
The sedan 2-door was dropped at the end of 1968 and replaced by the Swinger hardtop 2-door for 1969. Also added was the Swinger 340. The entire range Dart 1969 she received updates of equipment including another minor revision of the grille, and the turn to the parking lights / directional rectangular. The 1.968 side marker lights round were replaced with reflectors rectangular. Headrests were optional until January 1, 1969, when his installation was made mandatory under federal law. The 6-cylinder models received a system anti-ice carburetor borrowed from Chrysler 6-cylinder engines in the canadian market, and the automatic adjusters in drum brakes were reviewed for the operation more consistent. In the upper part of the range of performance Dart for 1969, there was limited availability of the 440 V8 in the model Dart GTS.
1970
The Dart was refreshed for 1970 with the changes in the rear is designed to bring the car closer to the design themes found in vehicles of full-size dodge through the grille and the outline of the changes to the front and rear. In the rear, the new rear lights rectangular dart settled on a rear bumper of wedge-shape design to continue the trailing edge angle of the new panels, deck lid and end. Style rear revised cut off space in the trunk almost to the half compared to the 1969 model. Wheels 14-inch became standard equipment, and the 170-cubic-inch (2,8 L) Slant-6 was replaced by a larger 198-cubic inch (3.2 L) version to improve the performance of base-model and a greater economy of manufacture, the 198 used the same block as the 225, while the 170 had used a different block. The changes to the fuel system improved driveability, economy and emission control. Reduction gear partial throttle in the automatic transmission 8 cylinders. In compliance with the standard FMVSS 108 , side marker lights and reflectors were installed at the four corners. All 1970 Darts for the markets of the united States and Canada were built in Canada at the assembly plant in Windsor, Ontario. All 1970 Darts got the steering column by federal mandate and ignition lock.
The name Swinger is applied to all the dart hardtops, two-doors, except that of the custom series of high line. There were a series of changes to the line of the Dart to avoid the internal competition with the new Dodge Challenger : convertible, Dart was discontinued along with the optional 383 cubic inches (up to 6.3 L) V8, leaving the 275 BHP (205 kW) 340 4 barrel V8 as the engine Dart top. The performance model in the line to Dart for 1970 was the Swinger 340 2-door hardtop. The 1970 Swinger 340 came with functional hood scoops with 340 emblems. Standard equipment included front disc brakes (only on the Swinger), heavy-duty suspension, "Rally", a rear-axle ratio 3.23:1, tires slashes with belt-fiber glass mounted in 14 "x 5 ½" steel wheels, and a stripe bumblebee. The optional equipment includes an update on the seat series with bucket seats all-vinyl, with that one central console could ask for. A performance hood upgrade with scoops was painted flat black with safety pins tie-down hood. Mechanical options included power brakes and steering. Wheels Rallye and wheel covers wire were also optional, as was a tachometer rpm to 6000 and a cover of vinyl roof in black or white.
1971
Lights, dual rear 1970 Dart were handed over to the badge engineered Plymouth Valiant Scamp , while the 1971 Dart received new rear lights quad is smaller which would be used until 1973. The custom coupe hardtop 2-door became the swinger, and the standard Swinger Swinger became the Special. Dodge gained a version of the popular fastback based on Valiant Plymouth Duster and was going to call the castor, but when the marketing department of Chrysler learned that "beaver" was CB slang for the vagina, the vehicle received the name of Dart Demon.
As was the case of rebadges of Dodge earlier Plymouth Valiant, such as the 1961-1962 Lancer , sales of the Demon lagged behind the Duster. With hood scoops and optional treatment hood blackout, the car was advertised a performance car. Type Dart lip wheel front fender of the devil and of the type Duster lip fender of the rear wheel to reveal the car was essentially a Duster with sheet metal front Dart and other minor changes in style. A new audio option became available for 1971: Cassette-Recorder of Chrysler. Unlike the 8-track tapes, the cassette player was relatively compact, and mounts on the console or in its own housing for mounting in soil. This unit provides a microphone available that could record their own dictation.
The Swinger 340, the performance model of the Dart was replaced by the Demon 340 with hood scoops and optional treatment hood blackout. In 1971, Chrysler abandoned their corporate practice of long standing of the installation bolts of the left wheel-threaded by hand on the left side of the vehicle; bolts in all four wheels on the Dart used from then on a right hand thread conventional.
