It is introduced in 1954 at the International Exposition of Bicycles and Motorcycles (Internationale Fahrrad - und Motorrad-Ausstellung; IFMA) in Cologne -will be able to drive with a valid motorcycle - and the first models came out of production line on 19 January 1955. The price was about 3500 German marks.
The original model of the Goggomobil, the model called T, was basic, without any extra possible. It was only in 1957 that was added to the second windshield wiper, as well as windows that could be opened (initially sliding, later with hand crank). From that year were manufactured in addition to engines of 250 cm3, other of 300 and 400 cm3. In 1964 there were more modifications, we modified the door that had its hinges on the jamb and put the hinges in front, so that the doors went open back.
From 1957 to 1969 they produced a sport version (sedan) under the name TS. From 1957 to 1965 was an enclosed van on the basis of the Goggomobil, which also could be bought in open version. The majority of production (approximately 2000 units) were sold in the service of German post.
The production will be stopped on 30 July 1969, two years and 6 months after BMW bought Hans Glas. In total were produced 284.491 units that came to cost up to 4.030 frames. Of them, 214.313 were built as limousines, 66.511 like convertibles and 3.667 as vans. Currently, there are about 2,500 Goggomobil functional.
Goggomobil 400 S Spanish production.
In 1957 Munguia Industrial SA, a basque company, reached agreements with Hans Glas for the production of the Goggomobil T 250.
The production begins in 1962, in which were manufactured 1,100 units. In 1963 he made 2.100, in 1964 he sold 1,900 and in 1965 there were only 450 units. In 1965, he joined the production of the model T-350 and the camper. At the beginning of the year 1966, all production focuses on the Goggomobil 400 S, while it only produced about 550 units due to the stock of units not sold from the previous year.
Since 1962, strikes, problems with the dealers and later the competition of the SEAT 600 led the company to seek alternatives to the production of the Goggomobil. Contacted to Standard Triumph, BMW or Volkswagen, but the opposition of the Ministry of Industry led the talks to failure. There were also discussions with Honda, but would eventually Lambretta who would come to an agreement.
The closure of Munguía Industrial occurred in 1966, due to the lack of sales of the Goggomobil and the lack of money for investments that would have permitted the manufacture of other models.
