The D series was a line of pickup trucks sold by the dodge division of american automobile manufacturer Chrysler 1961 until 1.980. After 1980, the trucks were renamed the Dodge Ram and the same basic design was retained until the introduction of a completely redesigned Ram in 1994. The D series shared its platform of AD with the Dodge Ramcharger / Plymouth Trailduster twins.
The body offered the bed-side step then traditional, with defenses different as an option.
The D-series uses the well known engine Chrysler Slant-6 in the displacement of 170 cubic inches, and 198 cubic inch and 225 cubic inch models as a base, depending on the year. (The 198 was relatively rare, available as the base engine only from 1969-1973). All the larger engines of Chrysler, with the notable exception of the engine Chrysler Hemi were available as factory options.
Another innovation was the introduction of an alternator instead of a generator of electrical energy. A three-speed automatic transmission was a major advance - the truck used a two-speed automatic less than a decade before.
However, another innovation, a "double cab" (four-door) body style was introduced in 1963, for the first time in a truck from the factory. Cabins of the crew were previous conversion jobs custom. A "Club Cab" was also available for 1973, providing transverse seating for either a single third passenger or passengers of two small third and fourth (more often, the Club cab was used as additional cargo space).
The first generation of the D-series is manufactured in Argentina . They were given the Dodge and Fargo brands, as Dodge D-100 and Fargo De Soto. They trucks was produced by the argentine subsidiary-Chrysler Fevre Argentina SA

The Ram pickup trucks first generation, alogside other vehicles that carry the name of " Dodge Ram "were introduced in 1981 were named for the adornment of the hood Ram, which first appeared on vehicles Dodge in 1933. Dodge kept appellations of the models of the previous generation: "D "," B "or Ram indicated two-wheel drive while the "W" or Ram Power directed to all four wheels . Like Ford , Dodge used 150 to indicate a half-ton truck, 250 for three-quarters of a ton, and 350 for one buttons. Cabin standard cabin, "Club" was extended, and the versions of the double cab is offered along with 6.5 ft (2.0 m) and 8 feet (2.4 m) lengths of bed and "Utiline" and "Sweptline" - decorated boxes. Externally, the Rams of the first generation were facelifted versions of the previous generation vans Dodge D-Series, introduced in 1972. The new model introduced larger wraparound tail lamps , individual rectangular headlights , and the body lines square-off. Variously configured Slant-6 and V8 gasoline engines available. The interior has been updated and includes a new seat bench-style, and a new dashboard and instrument cluster, with a design of three pod - a speedometer in the center, with the two side pods containing an ammeter on the top left, a bottom of the temperature gauge left, a fuel gauge in the top right and an oil pressure gauge bottom right. The models do not have a complete package of calibre had only indicator lights in place of indicators of temperature and oil pressure. Among the options offered on the Ram were front bumper, a rear window cab slider, central locking of doors and windows, and a package of plow to the version of 4 wheel drive (hereinafter, the Commander-Sno).
The taxi club was eliminated from the lineup after 1982, but Dodge kept the tooling and re-introduced the Club Cab a decade later, in the models of 1991. The crew cab four-door was dropped after the model year 1985, and was never reintroduced.
Are added to the models D100 Base for the year 1984, replacing the previous standard of "Miser", available on the D150. Added a "Ram-Trac" shift-on-the-fly transfer case for the spurs of energy, 1985, and both the crew cab and Utiline flared bed were dropped for 1986. Also for 1986 was the first year of a new grille crossbar and mild styling changes to the front-end. Engines have been updated for the model year 1988. The Slant-6 was supplanted by a 3.9 L (240 cu in) with petrol injection V6 with 25% more power. The 5.2 L (318 cu in) engine also received electronic fuel injection in 1988. Due to a new fuel injection system, the ignition and the ABS is controlled by computer, more vehicle information needed to be displayed through any warning or notification lights; so inside the cab where a small compartment was once located on the dashboard, a new "message center" with four small points of light, rectangular, contained the check engine light and other tell-tales including one for the hand brake and the ABS if the truck was so equipped. The message center later contained wait to start and water in the light of fuel in the diesel models. The error codes of the diagnostic are stored in the computer's memory, and cycling the ignition key three times would allow the computer to be orea trouble codes through the light of check engine to the diagnosis of some problems.
The designation of the model Ram 100 was dropped and these models folded back into the range of "150" for the year 1990 due to the introduction and sales success of the Dodge van Dakota. In addition, the instrument cluster was slightly revised; the ammeter was replaced by a voltmeter while maintaining the available 3-sheath of the speedometer and gauges.
These trucks, though popular with fleets, sold poorly compared to the Ford F-Series and the General Motors C / K Trucks , with just under 100,000 units sold most years of their production. Part of this was due to the cabin date and chassis design which had been in production since 1972. In addition, the interior had been given few changes since 1981.
Engines and transmissions
For 1989, the 5.9 L V8 also received the injection of the fuel in the throttle body 20 HP (15 kW) gain. Rear ABS also became standard equipment. Additionally, Dodge introduced a new automatic transmission with overdrive for the reduced fuel consumption. This transmission of low power was designated the A500, and was offered with the V6 3.9 L and 5.2 L V8. An "O / D Off" pushbutton switch to lock the fourth-speed overdrive this in the message center. The A727 automatic saw continued use for heavy duty applications.
The grille was redesigned for 1991 but kept the large rectangular headlamps and the appearance of the crossbar. The engines were substantially upgraded for 1992 (3.9 L and 5.2 L) and 1993 (5,9) with multi-port fuel injection , new manifolds and cylinder heads for higher compression for the production noticeably higher. These engines newly revised, marketed under the name "Magnum". Full throttle heavy-duty Torqueflite automatic transmission called the A518 was offered with the 5.2 L and 5.9 L engines. As part of the review of Chrysler's nomenclature for transmission to corporate, the A500 and A518 were reclassified 42RH and 46RH, respectively, in 1992. The initial "4" signified a 4-speed transmission, the second digit identifies the ability of the transmission's relative torque, the letter "R" in the third position denotes a transmission-rear wheel drive, and the last letter "H" meaning control of shift hydraulic . Remained the 3-speed automatic is available; the A727 was appointed again 36RH, and the A904, A998, and A999 became the 30RH, 31RH, and 32RH. During this time, Dodge reintroduced the Club Cab, which was equipped with fold-down seats folding. The entrance is made through the passenger or drivers doors as there were no rear doors for this configuration.
5.9 Cummins
A Cummins engine B Series was also added to the range of engines and, for the first time, Dodge saw sales increase. The Cummins could be accompanied by a more heavy-duty A727 automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission and was available on 250 and 350 pickups and taxis chassis. This option of diesel engine was drastically different from the diesel engines of Ford and GM in option at the time. The Cummins introduced direct injection, where the diesel engines of Ford and GM presented indirect Injection ; this also meant the Cummins does not have to rely on spark plugs . The Cummins was a six-cylinder engine , where the diesel engines from GM and Ford were the V8 engines . Also, the Cummins was turbocharged , while the 6.2-litre GM / DDC and 7.3 IDI Ford / IH were naturally aspirated . This was not the first engine to appear in the Dodge as an option for Diesel. Models of the mid-1970 D offered the rare, underpowered, Mitsubishi non-turbo diesel .
