The basic equipment that included the first Mustang was a six-cylinder engine in line and 160 cubic inches (from the Falcon, as well as all the set of chassis-frame), transmission three-speed, wheels full lined, bearing filled in and carpeted. Weighed in at 2572 pounds, and the launch price was $2.368$.
This year among the most optimistic of Ford were to sell at least 100,000 a Mustang, but only on the first day in the market there were about 22,000 orders for the model, and in its first year, 1964, sales reached a staggering 417.000 cars.
The first Mustang that came out of the chain of commercial production was the Wimbledon White, a convertible with a V8 engine that illustrates this article, that now, after certain vicissitudes, is on permanent display in the Museum of Henry Ford, in Dearborn (Michigan), where reside the principal offices of the corporation, and Ford Motor Company. In 1965 it is presented to the Shelby GT350 V8 289-cid, 306-horsepower. Sales of Mustang passed one million in march of that year. Even though it was practically in secret, Ford conducted a single model to a rich businessman, in an orange color, which picked up the used on some mack truck, hence the name "Macks orange", which was discovered today by stripping the red paint which looked at the hands of its last owner, a unique model.
The model of 1967 is considered by many as the best Mustang design of that era, and perhaps of all. In that sense, the Mustang 2005 and 2006 that so much acceptance has been based on the design parameters of the model of 1967. Has a presence of more aggressive and added important elements. That same year, he released the Shelby GT500 powered by a large V8 engine 355 horsepower.
Outwardly, the car grew, both in width as in length. These size changes sought to give the possibility to accommodate larger engines such as the 390 320 HP. And is that the Mustang had left a tough competitor: Chevrolet, again, but this time with the Camaro.
One year after, the 1st of April it is submitted to the engine 428 Cobra Jet as part of an option package aimed at enthusiasts of strong emotions on the roads. The new model, in addition, presents some new features such as AM/FM radio, possibility of engine 302, and the letters FORD, which disappeared from the front of the hood.
The philosophy "for all needs" gives way to 11 different combinations, and add new models to the production line in 1969 which includes, among others, the Boss 302 290 horsepower, while the Boss 429 goes up to 375 horsepower, as well as the Mach I and the luxurious, Large model. Also offered for the first time the V-8 engine "Windsor" that produces 250 horsepower carbureted two tubes, or 290 horsepower with a carburetor of four tubes.
In 1970 it appears the Shaker, "against the winds", equipped with a V8 engine largest. This year did not bring too many changes in the model, except for external details such as the frontal lights (2 instead of 4) or fender with light-reflective. In the section of the engine, yes there were more noticeable changes, since we stopped using the 390 and 351-2V Cleveland and 351-4V Cleveland replaced the 351 Windsor from the previous years. The Mach 1, Boss 302 and the Boss 429 were the models available in 1970.
In the year 1971 was the last big modification of the first generation of the Ford Mustang. Grew more than 5 inches in length and almost 6 in width with respect to the model of 1970s. It puts an end to the motors of 200 inches as well as the 428, the Boss 302, and Boss 429. Thus leaving engine Boss 351, 429 and Ram Air 429. The Boss 351 was an engine developing 330 horsepower while the 429 came to 370. The Mach 1 continued to offer during this year with any of the V8 engines, a special grill in the shape of a beehive, bumper of a special color were features offered only with the Mach 1, as well as tags "Mach 1" on the fenders. In 1971 the Boss 351 replaced the Boss 302 and the Boss 429. The Boss 351 had a hood with the insurance money and special lines in the body of the car in addition to a competition suspension, front disc brake, and dual exhaust.
The Mustang 1972 it happened to all models Boss, however, the GT version 302, 351, 429, etc, fitted with a V8 Cleveland, and 350 HP was the one who took his place, without getting to develop more than 300 HP that developed the Boss, but it offered the same coupe styling and superb performance. Time after due to the strong restrictions imposed by the government about the fuel economy, remaining as a representative of the line of high performance the Mach 1. 1973 was the last year of the Mustang "grande".

The Ford Mustang changed all that and became the Mustang II based on the Ford Pinto, a smaller pattern and less consumer-engine of 4, 6 and 8 cylinders. The sacrifice made in the reduction in the size of the engine as well as the car itself was more than compensated for with interiors more luxurious. In 1976, it appears the Cobra II, with the purpose of remembering the fame of the Mustangs Shelby. A year later, Ford, in an attempt to attract fans of the convertible, offers a new package for sports car four-speed manual transmission. The new model King Cobra is the first Mustang to use the badge "5.0" in the year 1978.
During the decade of the sixties, the manufacturers were always on the hunt for solutions to achieve the minimum fuel consumption and is as well as began to work with materials such as plastic, aluminum, and defenses of urethane.
The interiors, models, and aesthetic finishes varied from country to country. The MII was one of the mustangs most sold in the history, and thanks to him the dynasty continues to this day.
